For the last three years The Olde Boston Tea Party has performed as a trio with David Hatfield (double bass & vocals), Jeremy Cozens (mandolin and vocals) and Charlie Boston (guitar, dobro & vocals). Now there is a fourth permanent member in Peter Orgill (fiddle and vocals). Apart from fiddle, Peter also plays mandolin and guitar and sings a great high tenor part. When the occasion demands it, we can increase to a full six piece band with our very good friends who live in the South East of England, legendary dobro player, Ced Thorose and Chris Comac on banjo.

Whether performing as a regular four piece band or, when the occasion demands it, a six piece band, TOBTP, with original material written by band member, Charlie Boston, is increasingly becoming established as the number one bluegrass band in the West of England. All booking enquiries to David Hatfield: 07970 711 368.

It was perhaps inevitable that Leanne would turn out to be a musician, combining folk music and bluegrass. Most of her mother’s side of the family, who come from County Donegal, are musicians and her father, Ced Thorose has bluegrass roots, having originated from one of the southern states of America. I first met Leanne when she was about ten years old, shortly before she decided to teach herself mandolin, fiddle and guitar.

By the time we recorded this album, Leanne was 21 and a professional musician touring with “Essence of Ireland”. In 2010 I was determined to help her make her own CD and we agreed that we would stick to original material. I agreed to write the lyrics and Leanne agreed to write all the music, which included three instrumentals. We considered recording in England but I decided that we really needed to go to Nashville. I therefore contacted Mark Moseley, who had produced my 2002 album, “Dogwood Place”, and he secured the talents of what can only be described as some of the finest bluegrass musicians in the world under the leadership of guitarist, Bryan Sutton. These included Aubrey Haynie (fiddle), Adam Steffey and Andy Leftwich (mandolin), Mike Bub and Dennis Crouch (bass) and Scott Vestal (banjo).

I have no doubt that this debut album is the beginning of a great career.

I first met producer, Mark Moseley in 2002, when he produced my first Nashville album, “Dogwood Place”. I contacted Mark in 2010 who agreed to produce two more albums in the summer of 2011. “Out on the Ridge” is a joint album made with my old friend and bluegrass mentor, Ced Thorose. I wanted to maintain the aim of recording original material. I wrote six of the songs, Ced wrote the four instrumentals and we co-wrote two songs.

As with Dogwood Place, Mark managed to bring together a stellar cast of bluegrass musicians including guitarist Bryan Sutton, fiddle player Aubrey Haynie, banjo player Scott Vestal, mandolin players Adam Steffey and Andy Leftwich and the two most respected bass players in Nashville, Mike Bub and Dennis Crouch. Mark’s studio was in the process of being refurbished so we recorded the main tracks at Ricky Skaggs’ Studio in Hendersonville and mixed the tracks at Mark’s second studio. We then had Ronny Light, who was the chief engineer at RCA for many years, master the CDs.

Working with musicians of this calibre is always a thrill and Mark has all the qualities you need in a producer: he has technical knowledge, great ears, great ideas and is a fantastic musician. It is really an extraordinary privilege to be able to make an album in this way and I am pleased to say it exceeded all my expectations.
